Frequently Asked Questions

What can I expect?
You can expect your session to be a safe, respectful space where you feel heard, understood, and valued. Counselling offers an opportunity to explore your experiences, develop insight, and mindfully shift unhelpful patterns of thinking or being toward approaches that better align with your strengths and values.

Why counselling?
Grace Room Counselling is primarily talk-based therapy. You may be seeking a sounding board, a fresh perspective, or a supportive space to release and process emotions such as sadness, anger, anxiety, fear, disappointment, or overwhelm. Counselling can support clarity, emotional regulation, and meaningful change.

Who is Grace Room Counselling for?
Ash has a particular interest in working with adults and young adults of all genders. Areas of focus

include motherhood, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and relationship concerns, while remaining responsive to each client’s unique context and needs. No GP-referral necessary.

What is the pricing of sessions?
Individual sessions are $100 for 55 minutes. Couples sessions are $130 for 70 minutes.

If this is an obstacle, reduced pricing, financial support options, and gifted sessions can be discussed; Ash is passionate about providing accessible counselling to all.

Where do sessions take place?
In-person sessions are held in Petone. A limited number of online sessions are available.

How many sessions can I have?
There is no right or wrong number of sessions. The length of counselling varies depending on individual needs and circumstances. We typically begin with one to six sessions and review the process together on an ongoing basis.

What are Ash’s qualifications and policies?
Ash holds a Bachelor of Counselling from Bethlehem Tertiary Institute and is a Provisional Member of the New Zealand Christian Counsellors Association. Ash practises in accordance with the NZCCA Code of Ethics. Confidentiality, boundaries, and cancellation policies will be discussed and agreed upon prior to commencing counselling.

What if it is not quite the right fit?
That is completely okay! A good therapeutic fit is important, and Ash or clients may choose to end counselling at any time. Ash will support this process by discussing alternative options and, where appropriate, offering referral pathways.
